What you can expect from this podcast

In this episode, Tineke Honoré speaks with Dr. William Declerck, physician and co-founder of Uma Health.

What began as a fascination with digital medical innovation grew into a clear mission: better and more accessible care for women in (peri)menopause. The (peri)menopause experience of his co-founder Ann Broché became a key driving force to delve into women's health and help build a new care model. Together with her and Thibaut Santermans, he founded Uma Health: a digital platform that gives women access to specialized healthcare providers while simultaneously aiming to build a network of doctors with expertise in menopause care.

Today, William conducts daily online consultations with women regarding (peri)menopause and contributes to training courses and webinars for doctors who wish to deepen their knowledge in this field.

In the conversation, we discuss, among other things:

- his fascination with digital innovation in healthcare

- the motivation behind the founding of Uma Health

- his trajectory from surgical resident to physician with a focus on menopause care

- the “crack in the system” that women's health still is today

- the role of training and knowledge sharing for healthcare providers

William also talks about the people and sources that influenced his journey:

- Griet Spiessens, who was an important mentor to him

- the large Facebook community “Bio-identical hormones for perimenopause / menopause: evidence-based help + info”, founded by Leen‑Marie Reynvoet, where he could see daily what questions and problems women were facing

- the work of Louise Newson

- insights from Herman Depypere

In addition to being a doctor and entrepreneur, William turns out to be a musician as well. He is the singer of the band Kids of the Elephant — whose music can also be heard in this episode.

A conversation about curiosity, systemic flaws in medicine, and how digital care can make a difference for women in a life stage that still too often remains overlooked.
